Affectionately known as "The Bubble" on campus, the Grimshaw-Gudewicz Activity Center at Northfields is the hub of the university's highly successful Raven Recreation program and serves as a recreation area for the entire campus.
Built by Franklin Pierce students in the 1970s, this rustic building was first designed as a warming hut for students enjoying skiing and snow tubing. The upper level is comfortably furnished and equipped with a wood stove, high speed internet, cable TV and DVD/VCR. Downstairs houses a bouldering (rock climbing) cave. Students are welcome any time to study, socialize, hold meetings or just relax.
Situated directly on the waterfront, the Boathouse emphasizes the use of Pearly Pond for recreational activities. During the academic year, it is used by the Adventure Recreation program to instruct and supervise the kayaking, canoeing and sailing programs.
The campus has an impressive series of trails designed for year-round use. They are ideal for mountain biking, hiking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, trail running and nature walking.
Overlooking the interior of the North Fields Activity Center, the Clubhouse offers the campus community a unique meeting area for various activities. It can be set up as a conference room, a dance studio, game room or casual meeting room. Amenities include a kitchenette and restroom facilities.
The intramural fields, located on the academic mall, were constructed as open green space for students to enjoy informal recreational activities and structured intramural sports. These lighted fields allow for evening participation in softball, flag football, ultimate Frisbee and many other campus-wide, recreational special events.
